Builder Survey Predicts a Dip in New Home Sales

Thursday, March 18, 2021

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) is predicting a slowdown in new home sales when the Census Bureau releases its statistics next week. MBA's Builder Application Survey (BAS) data for February 2021 shows mortgage applications for new home purchases increased 9.2 percent compared to a year ago but were down by 9 percent year-over-year. This is a decline of 17.3 percent from the January pace of 905,000 units.  On an unadjusted basis, MBA estimates the month's sales numbered 65,000 units, a 5.8 percent decrease from 69,000 the prior month.

"I just wanted to take the time to write and let you know what a miracle worker you are. I never thought in a million years I would get approved to purchase a home but you did it and what a tough job you had. You came through for me and never gave up and I wanted you to know that I am truly grateful. Now I have a place that I can call my own for my daughter and me. Kim, I tell everyone I talk to if they are looking to refinance or purchase a home to call you and you'll get the job done. Thank you so much."
